Overview
The HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting qualification is designed specifically for educators, childcare workers, and support staff who are responsible for the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in their care.
This nationally recognised course equips participants with the skills and confidence to respond to medical emergencies, perform CPR, and provide first aid for infants, children, and adults — in compliance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and ACEQA requirements for early childhood and education staff.
What You’ll Learn
- Perform CPR on adults, children, and infants
- Provide first aid in emergency situations, including anaphylaxis and asthma
- Respond to common injuries such as cuts, burns, and fractures
- Manage medical emergencies like seizures, choking, or allergic reactions
- Assess and respond to sick or injured children in an education or care environment
- Maintain accurate incident records and communicate effectively with emergency services
- Apply infection control procedures and workplace health and safety standards
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification.
- Be physically capable of performing CPR on a manikin placed on the floor
- Have basic English and literacy skills to complete assessments
Course Duration
- Duration: Usually completed in 1 day (6–8 hours), including theory and practical assessment.
- Refresher Training: Recommended every 3 years, with CPR (HLTAID009) refreshed annually.
- Delivery: Face-to-face or blended (online theory + in-person practical session).
