Overview
The HLTHPS006 – Assist Clients with Medication unit equips support workers with the knowledge and skills to safely assist clients with medication administration under supervision in community, home, or health care settings.
This nationally recognised unit is designed for individuals working or planning to work in roles such as aged care, disability support, or community services, where medication assistance is part of the support provided.
Learners will develop an understanding of medication procedures, infection control, documentation, and legal and ethical responsibilities in handling medications safely.
What You’ll Learn
- Assist clients with prescribed and over-the-counter medications safely
- Follow medication charts, care plans, and documentation procedures
- Identify different medication types, routes, and dosage forms

Entry Requirements
- Be currently employed in, or have access to, a relevant workplace or simulated environment for practical assessment
- Have basic English, literacy, and numeracy skills
- Hold a National Police Check or NDIS Worker Screening Check (if required by employer or placement provider)
- Ideally have completed CHC33021 – Certificate III in Individual Support or be working towards it
Course Duration
- Typically completed in 4–6 weeks, depending on delivery mode and experience.
- Delivered through classroom-based, blended, or workplace training with practical assessments included.
