Traineeships and Apprenticeships are a mode of delivery of training on the job, meaning at your workplace. It is one of the best learning methods while working and getting qualified with Nationally Recognised Training. Under these programs, you may get paid employment under an appropriate industrial arrangement. The traineeship is a learning pathway that combines paid on-the-job training and formal study with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Eligibility for traineeships
1. Residency requirements
- an Australian citizen, or
- a foreign national with permanent residency, or
- a New Zealand passport holder who has been a resident in Australia for more than six months, or
- a person who holds a visa that Training Services NSW identifies as being eligible.
2. Employment status
A trainee or apprentice must be employed in an Australian company under the following –
- Full-time – Less than 3 months
- Part-time – Less than 12 months
The trainee or apprentice also must be a paid worker and have leaves entitlements
3. Learners capacity to continue with training
- Possess English language skills
- Literacy and Numeracy skills
4. Agreement from the employer

Duration of the training
The duration of the training depends on several factors, including facilitation by your employer and the industry experience. If you possess some experience and knowledge of the industry you are pursuing the training, you may finish your course earlier with minimum training requirements. However, if you are new to the job, meaning a fresher, you may require additional time for training which may take a little longer.
